ABOUT US

PAMBATA (pamˈbata • adjective • for children) is an online small business that aims to curate different collections for the Filipino kid. It’s a passion project of a mum of two young girls (3 year-old and 1 year-old at the time of writing) who struggled to find resources for them to learn about the Filipino culture while living in Australia.

ORANGE SPARKED IT ALL

I was doing some colouring activity with my eldest daughter who was 22 months at the time. She knew some Filipino words already (at 20 months she was able to sing Bahay Kubo in full!), so I was testing her with some colours.

She got red, yellow.. then she asked me “Mummy, what’s the Tagalog of orange?”

I said “I don’t know, I have to google it”

Then she gave me a frown as if to say “why don’t you know it?!”

My husband and I had some laughs after that incident but it sparked something inside of me. I want my girls to grow up learning about the Filipino language and culture. My Australian husband has been very supportive and has been learning the language as well utilising his own resources he’s found that has helped him. So I looked around for different resources that can help my daughters learn but to my dismay, there weren’t a lot available.

That’s when the vision of PAMBATA came to mind. I wanted to be able to provide parents in the same boat as me with different resources that will help them impart the Filipino culture to their kids. Whether through play, reading or other fun activities, I’m hoping to be able to curate different collections that can help encourage the Pinoy culture in your Aussie home too.
